ABOUT BATHS FOR THE BRAVE:

Baths for the Brave is a partnership between ten home improvement companies from across the United States who have banned together to give back to those who’ve sacrificed so much for us – our veterans. Our goal is to improve the lives of veterans in meaningful ways to say thank you for your service.

In an effort to honor our nation’s veterans, just in time for Veteran’s Day, 10 home improvement companies from across the United States are partnering to provide deserving veterans with the ultimate bath or safety shower remodel. This one-of-a-kind one-day event is called Baths for the Brave and began in Kaukauna, Wisconsin with Tundraland Home Improvements. These remodels will occur simultaneously for these preselected veterans across the country annually on November 11th.

The goal of Baths for the Brave is to improve the lives of veterans who were left disabled from their military service or have experienced hardships in their life that prevent them from completing normal everyday tasks such as bathing. As veteran Mike Kerr, from Port Byron, Illinois puts it:

“It’s a blessing in disguise.”

Taking action and providing remodeled baths and showers for these veterans is just one small way 10 home improvement companies have decided to honor our nation’s heroes.

2022 Veterans' Stories:

John Ricketts

John is an Army Veteran from Silvis, IL. He served from 1968-1979 as a pay master. John did serve in the Vietnam War and was stationed in many places, including, but not limited to Okinawa, Italy and Vietnam. His son is also a veteran! John has suffered side effects from Agent Orange and is so grateful for this program. He said “I’ve never won anything before! This new shower will help with my mobility issues so that I can easily enter and exit the shower for bathing. The low step-in and grab bars takes away my fear of falling, and having a shower door will help me breathe easier while bathing.”

Patti Spencer-Moore

Patti is an Airforce Veteran from Des Moines, IA. She served in the United States Airforce from 1974 to 1977 as law enforcement. She was stationed in Texas and did serve during the Vietnam era where she also met her husband. As Patti puts it she “fell in love on the main gate.” She met her husband, Tommy in July of 1975. They met on a Tuesday, went on their first date that Thursday, and by that Saturday they were engaged! She served 5 years with him before his passing from exposure to Agent Orange. Patti comes from a family of veterans - her son, Thomas Moore is also a veteran and the one who nominated her for the program.

Moore and her family are feeling grateful for the support from Baths for the Brave. Her son Thomas stated “Thank you so much for this opportunity. I have felt that my mom hasn’t gotten as much recognition as she deserves for her service. She’s such a kind woman." Currently, Patti is a Lutheran Pastor, still serving her community.
